My name is Eden, 19 years old from the Bay Area. I am of Ethiopian descent and grew up in Mountain View before moving to Newark. I graduated from Newark Memorial High School in 2010 and have been attending Foothill College since then.
From the age of 7, I remember my love for singing in the church choir and performing throughout my school years. Even before then I’ve have had a special connection with music in general. At about the age of 12 I started writing poetry as a way of expressing myself through everyday trials and tribulations of growing up, family situations, and young “love”. Music and poetry has always been my escape, my getaway; a release of emotions bottled up.
Although I listen to all genres, ever since I was young I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Hip-Hop, especially. I’ve been touched and inspired listening to artists like Tupac, Common, Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep, Lupe Fiasco, Dead Prez and Talib Kweli. Outside of Hip-Hop, some of my other favorite artists would be Bob Marley, Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, Collie Buddz, Dezarie, Steel Pulse, Midnite, Stephen Marley, Sade, Adele, and John Legend.
Close to the age of about 18 I began experimenting with writing my own song lyrics to R&B tracks and writing raps over instrumentals of my favorite Hip-Hop songs. The creative process is more like a healing process to me. I found it to be my passion, writing hours after hours into the night inside my room, I knew it was something I could do forever.
My goals are to get my English degree and go on to become a published author and educator. Every day I seek to grow and further my talents in music through rapping, poetry, singing and song writing.
